The European Union has not yet confirmed that the Ukraine-EU summit will be held in Kyiv, and not in Brussels, as the Ukrainian side claimed.
This was reported by DW with reference to an unnamed representative of the European Union, writes a Ukrainian political scientist.
As you know, the meeting is scheduled for February 3, it will be attended by the heads of the European Council and the European Commission Charles Michel and Ursula von der Leyen, as well as the top leadership of Ukraine.
During a telephone conversation with Volodymyr Zelensky, von der Leyen announced her visit to Kyiv, and following the conversation, the Office of the President announced that the summit would be held in Kyiv.
Earlier, the press secretary of the President of the European Council, Charles Michel Barend Leites, said that the Ukraine-EU summit should be held in Brussels, and Volodymyr Zelensky received an invitation to it.
According to the Association Agreement, the Ukraine-EU summit is held annually. The last, 23rd summit was held in October 2021 in Kyiv.
The 2022 summit was supposed to take place in December, so it had to be held in Brussels. The Ukrainian side received preliminary information about its holding. However, as a result, the summit was decided to be postponed to the beginning of 2023.
According to the sources of the Ukrainian political scientist, one of the reasons for the delay was the lack of real results of such a meeting; In particular, as you know, until recently, the EU parties had problems even with the approval of the macro-financial assistance package in the amount of 18 billion euros, promised within the G7.
