Canada will acquire the American NASAMS air defense system for transfer to Ukraine. This was announced by the head of the country’s Defense Ministry Anita Anand after a telephone conversation with Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov.

According to her, Reznikov said that air defense systems are Ukraine’s top priority today, so Canada is buying NASAMS from the United States to transfer to Ukraine.

She noted that this is the first Canadian delivery of an air defense system that will help protect critical infrastructure from missile, air and drone strikes.

Anand stressed that NASAMS has a very high success rate and will be a valuable contribution to Ukraine’s defense capability.

“Canada will continue to support the Ukrainian people in their fight against Russia’s illegal and unjustified invasion,” the minister said.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for handing over NASAMS to Ukraine.

“Your true leadership in the defense of democracy and human rights has once again been clearly demonstrated. Thank you for helping us protect our skies. NASAMS will become a strong shield for our cities and citizens,” the head of state wrote on Twitter.
