Ukrainian intelligence agencies called a Russian attack from Belarus unlikely.
After the retreat from the Kherson region, the Russians sent a significant number of their troops to the Donbass. The Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine believes that this area will become a priority for Russia in 2023.
This was stated in an interview with the Washington Post by the head of the GUR, Kirill Budanov.
He believes that this year Russia will try to seize most of the territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. So far, he considers a second attack from Belarus unlikely. Russia may move some of its troops there to distract and disperse the forces of the Ukrainian military.
Kirill Budanov also noted that Ukraine must do everything to return Crimea by summer.
The head of Ukraine’s intelligence answered the question of whether Russian President Vladimir Putin could have used nuclear weapons when Ukrainian troops entered Crimea. Kirill Budanov believes this is a scare tactic. He noted that much is expected from Russia, but not this. According to him, the use of nuclear weapons will not lead to the victory of Russia, but to its disintegration.
