Spain
The Spanish Ministry of Defense next Monday, February 6, will send 20 M113 armored personnel carriers to Ukraine as part of military assistance to counter Russian aggression.
This is reported by the Ukrainian political scientist with reference to Europa Press.
The intention to transfer the mentioned armored personnel carriers was first announced by the head of the Spanish Ministry of Defense Margarita Robles during a visit to Latvia last week.
Also, as you know, Spain will transfer several Leopard 2A4 battle tanks to Ukraine – according to media reports, we are talking about four to six units. Despite the abundance of these tanks in Spain (more than 300), most of them are in warehouses and are not subject to maintenance.
According to media reports, Santa Barbara has already begun urgent repairs to “half a dozen” tanks so that they will be ready for shipment as soon as possible.
Recall that for the first time the possibility of sending M113 armored personnel carriers through the territory of Spain was discussed last summer.
According to Military, the M113 armored personnel carrier is the main tracked armored personnel carrier in service with the mechanized troops of the US Army and many armies of the world. This technique has been in service with the Portuguese army for over 30 years.
Austria
Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen arrived in Kyiv on an official visit. He met with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky.
During the meeting, issues of energy and humanitarian cooperation were discussed. In addition, the President of Austria explained why Vienna does not give weapons to Ukraine.
The President of Austria commented on Volodymyr Zelensky’s “peace plan” of 10 points. He noted that Vienna: will support all diplomatic ideas and take all diplomatic measures to stop hostilities; will do everything to implement this plan and will support it in every possible way.
A completely different question concerns the supply of weapons by Austria. You probably know that neutrality is enshrined in the Austrian constitution. And the constitution can only be changed by two-thirds in parliament,” said Alexander Van der Bellen.
However, so far the President does not see such readiness in Austria. He noted that this is connected with history, in particular, the Second World War in 1955, when the law on the permanent neutrality of Austria came into force.
In addition, the Austrian leader said that the country has already “launched” its weapons. Therefore, they do not see the possibility of supplying weapons to Ukraine.
We saved on the budget of our armed forces. But we are trying to do everything at the level of the European Union – we do not want to prevent others from supplying weapons to Ukraine, – said the President of Austria.
Vienna allows the supply of weapons from NATO countries to Ukraine in transit through its territory by air or land.
Alexander Van der Bellen acknowledged that his country can really do little in the field of armaments, so he is trying to focus on the humanitarian sphere.
The President of Austria announced that 5 million euros would be allocated to Ukraine for the restoration of transformer substations in Ukraine.
United Kingdom
British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said his country has not made a “firm decision” not to transfer its fighter jets to Ukraine, but does not consider it “the right approach at this time”.
It is reported by The Guardian.
When asked why the UK would not send planes to Ukraine, Wallace replied: “I never rule anything out.”
The British minister stressed that the decision not to supply Ukraine with fighter jets is “not viable.”
Israel
Israel may consider expanding assistance to Ukraine, in particular, the transfer of advanced weapons systems. This was stated by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to Al Arabia.
According to the publication, Netanyahu was asked in an interview with CNN whether Israel could expand assistance to Ukraine, for example, by transferring the Iron Dome missile defense system to it.
“I’m definitely considering this option,” Netanyahu replied.
According to The Times of Israel, Netanyahu said he was “exploring” providing Ukraine with “other types of assistance” than humanitarian, even amid concerns about Israel’s “difficult relationship” with Russia and the need to maintain “freedom of action” in Syria to in order to “keep Iran under control.”
